“I had Joel as my public speaking coach and I found him to be electric, diplomatic, and full of personality. When you’re speaking publicly, describing things in a group of 3 is called a tricolon which allows you to emphasise your point in a memorable way. This is one of the many invaluable public speaking tactics instilled in me by Joel. Thank you Joel for enabling me to become a confident and effective communicator.”
When I attended The University of Nottingham in autumn 2016 for my Master‘s degree in Entrepreneurship and Management, I also joined the Public Speaking Society, as I thought that expressing myself most effectively in public would definitely be very beneficial for my future career as a business woman – that‘s where I got to know Joél, the Society‘s Vice President of that cohort who therefore functioned as one of the tutors of our weekly meetings as well!
However, what I learned there eventually exceeded my expectations, as I was not only introduced to all the tools of how to make any speech most powerful – for example through rhetorical questions, anaphoras, tricolons … – but I also got to learn techniques of how to control my nerves and hence deliver my message on point! I am very grateful I had the chance to work with Joél on all those topics that closely back then and I am still profiting a lot from what Joél helped me understand with regard to communications – especially when working in sales and in that context with a lot of different people everyday in order to create ‘win-win situations’!
I joined the Public Speaking Society at Nottingham inspired by the seemingly effortless confidence of many well-known figures when addressing a crowd. Joél helped me realise that public speaking was a skill that could be developed just like any other – with practice and knowing the appropriate techniques.
He consistently creates an encouraging, relaxed and comfortable learning environment, which is a testament to his sincerity, unwavering enthusiasm and incredible ability to match the energy of anyone he works with.
Working in scientific research, I now use the skills I developed while working with Joél on an almost daily basis: presenting at conferences, delivering undergraduate workshops and giving public science talks.
Joél took part in a project that I commissioned as part of the Students as Change Agents initiative. He was an enthusiastic and extremely professional member of the project team and was a real pleasure to work with. He and his project team produced a reading strategies handbook for Undergraduates which has been used by both the School and the Library to support students develop appropriate reading strategies during their time at University. Joél is a fantastic presenter and used these skills to great effect at the end of project showcase event.
I had the pleasure of being taught by Joél at the University of Nottingham’s public speaking society.
Joél speaks with power, purpose and poise. He has a strong stage presence and ensures his speeches are memorable.
Through Joél’s guidance I have learnt the importance of pauses, body language, tone of voice and above all how to own the stage.
As a result of Joél’s public speaking advice I was able to gain a “Distinction” in the English Speaking Board’s Level 4 Award in Professional Presentation Skills.
If you want to become a confident, competent and impactful public speaker, Joél will show you the way.
When Joél gave us an presentation, everyone came out thinking we had learnt something new and useful – and the audience included both senior managers and junior staff. The examples and interaction were great, applicable and relevant.
Joél is fun and engaging and his passion for the subject was reflected in the delivery of his message. I definitely recommend Joél’s advice for young professionals looking at developing their verbal communication skills.
First of all, Joél is a fantastic listener, he is always invested in focusing on what you have to say, what issues you can be facing. He is eager to find a solution for you.
Then, his engaged and upbeat personality gives him an aura and vibe that makes you feel comfortable and wanting to outperform yourself, just like he outperforms himself on a daily basis thanks to his love for sports especially gym and running.
While attending his session, I could definitely feel I was facing a passionate man, and while he gave us clear advices he also kept his audience entertained.
So, if you feel like you need to reach a new level with your communication skills, like you need to break that invisible shield upon your head, then Joél is the right man for you.
Joél is a person who is dedicated to excellence. This was immediately obvious from the moment we took our positions to lead the Public Speaking Society at the University of Nottingham. During our time together we trained and mentored students who were shy and nervous speakers. We helped them transform themselves into into speakers who are now engaging and confident and many of them have taken these skills into their careers. This would have been impossible without Joéls dedication, commitment and creativity.
Joél is as good a public speaker as he is a mentor. There were countless times where I saw him take a seemingly mundane and commonplace subject and transform it into a speech that left the audience in awe of his delivery. He always ensured that he put into practice the techniques which he taught others.
One of Joéls greatest strengths when speaking was his ability to connect with the audience. He had a way of speaking in which you felt like you were having a one to one conversation with him rather than being lectured at. It’s no surprise that his lessons and speeches were always well remembered.
In the assembly some were novices, others already very comfortable in speaking in public. But one thing is for sure, we all learned something from Joel’s intervention.
He delivered advices and tips in a fun and passionate way. I remember that for once in a training session, no one would hang out on their cell phone.
Joel was my Public Speaking mentor for a year and since then my communication and Public Speaking skills skyrocketed. Thanks to his dedication to transferring these skills, his great methods of teaching, but also his great guidance and feedback I was improving at a ready pace.
Joel was an inspiration for me to continue practising and improving my public speaking skills, and I reached a point where I was a winner of the University’s Public Speaking competition.
I can recommend Joel for both personal and business coach!
Thank you again, Joel!
I attended one of Joél’s public speaking workshops where he covered the fundamentals of giving an engaging talk. His passion throughout the workshop was contagious and inviting which helped me feel comfortable to contribute and make mistakes.
By the end of the session, I was able to put into practice all that I had learnt and deliver a short talk to the other attendees. Joél’s feedback was encouraging yet constructive; he has helped me identify my strengths and gave me tools to improve the weak areas.
Overall, I left feeling much more confident to deliver my ideas in a persuasive manner in the workplace. I would highly recommend his workshops for any professionals looking to improve their communication in the workplace or generally in life.
I participated in one of Joél’s workshops on how to be a better communicator and it was amazing 🤩. We went through a process of how to be better public speaker and even analyzed well known speakers. We also had a chance to make a small presentation and Joél provided great feedback! Would definitely recommend to join his masterclass 💯
I recently had the pleasure of taking Joél Thika’s public speaking course, and it was an incredible experience. Joél is an expert in the field and his knowledge and passion for public speaking are second to none. Throughout the course, he provided insightful feedback and practical tips that helped me improve my public speaking skills tremendously.
Joél’s approach to teaching is engaging and interactive, and he creates a safe and supportive environment that encourages participants to push beyond their comfort zones. His ability to break down complex concepts and make them easily understandable was particularly impressive, and I appreciated how he tailored his approach to meet the unique needs of each participant.
I can confidently say that Joél’s course has had a significant impact on my public speaking skills, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their communication skills. Whether you’re a seasoned speaker or just starting out, Joél’s course will provide you with the tools and confidence you need to succeed. Thank you, Joél, for an incredible learning experience!
